Joshua Tree

After we left Palm Springs, our destination was Joshua Tree National Park. It is a large desert area that spans two different deserts - the Mojave and Colorado (which is itself part of the Sonoran Desert). Like Palm Springs, it is very hot. On our way in, we bought two jugs of water just in case we got stranded, which followed us through the rest of the trip and back home.

Here we are having a picnic in the park.

This is the Mojave part of the desert, and the rocks tend to be smooth and big. Some of them are very climbable.

Nice specimens of actual Joshua trees.

This is up at "Keys View" in the park. A very nice, long view.

We came into the park on the northwest side and exited on the southeast. Near the southeast exist is the Cholla Cactus Garden, featuring the Teddy Bear Cholla, so called because it looks so fuzzy and sweet. It's also called Jumping Cholla because it snags on to you so well it's like it jumped.
